Canoe Camp
An unforgettable adventure for Cub Scouts, Scouts and Venturer Scouts in beautiful Algonquin Park
Scouting Youth that have attended our camp consider it to be a highlight of their Scouting experience. Most campers can't wait to return the next year! We are all about having fun while learning in a wilderness setting - youth will make friends, learn new skills, and see more wilderness in one week than most people see in a lifetime.
Our Programs
Cub Scouts
For youth born in 2013* or 2014 with at least one year of experience as a Cub Scout, including a minimum of one overnight camp.
Our Cub Scout program includes extended base camp activities and a short (2 night) wilderness trip in the Algonquin interior.
Look forward to great activities, such as:
learning to canoe and wilderness camp
hiking Algonquin's trails
camp crafts
touring the Algonquin Park Logging Museum
checking out the wildlife
Scouts
Canoe trips for Scouts born in 2008 to 2013* at all experience levels.
All trips start at base camp with reviewing key skills, confirming swim capability, and completing final preparations for the trip.
The majority of camp is spent paddling in the interior for 5 or 6 days (4 or 5 nights). Length of the trip is determined beforehand by the capability of the participants. Depending on the length of the trip, additional activities may include touring attractions of Algonquin Park (for example, Logging Museum, day-hiking trails, cultural experiences).
Venturer Scouts
Depending on camper interest, the Algonquin team is open to planning a Venturer wilderness canoe trip. This trip is usually held the week after the Cub/Scout camps, but it is part of the youth planning to choose the date along with their route. This trip is open to any Venturers with previous canoeing experience and a recommendation from their Company Scouter (wilderness camping experience is an asset but not a requirement).
*Youth born in 2013 may choose between the Cub program and the Scout program based on their interest. We generally recommend that youth who have not previously attended the SLS Algonquin Camp and those who especially enjoy base camp activities (such as crafts and games) select the Cub program.
